Salsa Baron’s Ball

Palo Pinto County

Tickets are now available for the Salsa Baron’s Ball benefitting Palo Pinto Challenge, set for 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Sheriff’s Posse Building.
Tickets are $100 per couple and prices include a fajita dinner and a chance to win $1,500 grand prize. Tickets can be purchased at the Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce.

Child Care Service
United Way of Palo Pinto County is interested in finding child care facilities specifically serving low income children. The agency needs to know by noon Monday, March 1. Call United Way at 940-325-4848 and leave a message.


SWCD MeetingThe Palo Pinto County Soil and Water Conservation District No. 518 will meet in an open board meeting at 8 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, at the USDA Service Center, 415 S.W. First Street, Mineral Wells. The public is invited to attend.
Agenda items include stewardship outreach program; and conservation awards, poster and essay nominees.

Lenten Service
The Graford Possum Kingdom Ministerial Alliance will hold a Lenten service at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Community Church of Possum Kingdom. Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch.

Glenn Miller Orchestra
Mineral Wells High School will host “The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at the high school auditorium.
Tickets are reserved seating only and range from $10–$20. Tickets in the front sections are $20; side sections of the front are $15; and the back sections are $10.

The Graford Possum Kingdom Ministerial Alliance will hold a Lenten service at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Graford United Methodist Church. Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch.

VFW Benefit
VFW Post 2399 in Mineral Wells will hold a benefit fund-raiser for Dennis Shumate 5 p.m.-midnight, Saturday, March 20, at the VFW in Mineral Wells.
Shumate fell off a barn and was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital where he remains.. Admission is $10 and includes a barbecue meal and music by The Stagecoach Band. There will also be a live auction.

Sunrise Service
The annual Easter sunrise service will be held at 7 a.m. Sunday, April 4, at Observation Point.

Photography Club
The gr8fotos Photography Club was briefly named the Palo Pinto/Parker County Photography Club and is open to anyone who loves great pictures and wants to learn more about photography.
The club meets at 5:45 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at Jitter Beans Coffee Roasting Company located at the corner of Hubbard Street and Northeast First Avenue in Mineral Wells, across the street from the Baker Hotel.
The first meeting of the month includes business items, contests, updates and photo sharing.

Education Program
A nondenominational video-based course in basic Christianity is offered at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays at St. Peter’s by the Lake Episcopal Church.

Booster Club
The Graford Booster Club meets at 6 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month at the Graford Independent School District cafeteria.

Graford Lions Bingo
The Graford Lions Club holds Bingo at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at the club, located at the corner of FM 4 and Lee Street in downtown Graford. Jackpots every week.

Exercise Program
At the Possum Kingdom Chamber of Commerce, exercise classes are held at 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Weights, low- and high-impact, and aerobics are available, $5 per session. The first session is free.
Classes are subject to cancellation. Call 940-779-2424 after 4 p.m. for confirmation or information.

Walk Away the Pounds
The Community Church of Possum Kingdom Lake exercise program meets at 8:30 a.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Auxiliary Donations
The Possum Kingdom East Volunteer Fire Department and EMS Auxiliary is accepting donations for the its flea market sales.
To make arrangements to leave donated items at the fire station, call Sally, 940-779-9049; Rita, 940-779-2622; Kathy, 940-779-2156; or Lynn, 940-779-2768.
Do not leave donated items outside the fire station.

Invitation to Join
The Graford Fire and Ambulance Auxiliary invites those interested in membership to attend any of the organization’s meetings, held at 6:30 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at The Cafe in Graford.

Got more pets than money? Financial assistance for spay and neuter services is available from the Palo Pinto County Humane Society.

CASA Volunteers
Court Appointed Special Advocates needs volunteers to work with children who have been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services.
