Q: I do not think I can handle the intermediate classes. What do you suggest?
A: The intermediate classes teach intermediate level concepts and are *not* defined as for intermediate dancers! This would mean that any person that feels that they are at a beginner level can take the class!
Q: In regards to the Friday class, do you cover patterns from Thursday's lesson?
A: No, there are different instructors that teach the Thursday and Friday classes, and with that each instructor has their separate focuses and lesson curriculum.
Q: Are there sign-ups for Thursday or Friday's lessons?
A: No. You do not have to sign-up, just show up with your fantastic smile and attitude to learn salsa. However, it is recommended that you contact the instructor.
Q: Are there any fees for the Thursday or Friday lessons?
A: No. It's FREE.
Q: Do I need a partner for the lessons?
A: No. We rotate partners during the lessons so that you may experience dancing with others.
Q: What clothing should I wear to the lessons?
A: Clothing that does not restrict your movement is recommended. People generally come to the class casually dressed.
Q: Are shoes required?
A: Yes. Shoes that allow easy turning and movement is recommended.
Q: What do you cover in your Friday lessons and what makes it different?
A: The Friday lessons cover solo footwork and solo footwork pattern incorporation, which is not covered in the Thursday lessons. A core movement step is also not covered in the Friday class Friday lessons also, when appropiate, covers styling in patterns.
Q: What's the male:female ratio?
A: The ratio is generally the same every week. After two years we have noticed that we always have about four leaders that start without a partner, regardless of the size of the class!
Q: Why are the lessons free on Thursdays and Fridays?
A: The average fee per person is $10-$25 per lesson, for 1-2 hours depending on the instructor or the club. Majority of students who are just starting to learn salsa, participate in the lessons and forget what was taught soon after the lesson is over. The value of the lesson drops to zero if the student forgets the moves they have just learned. Therefore, we believe that beginning lessons, if anything, should be at a lower cost or free.
Q: Okay, so I understand why the beginning lessons are free. Then why are you teaching the intermediate class for free?
A: The main reason is change. Compared to San Francisco, the number of south bay's salsa dancers is relatively small. Some intermediate/advance dancers in the south bay travel to San Francisco to salsa. We are trying to grow the number and the popularity of salsa dancers in the south bay. In order to have a growing number of people who enjoy salsa, students should have the opportunity to learn from instructors who break down moves and patterns in a comfortable setting.
Q: Are you getting paid for the free lessons?
A: No. Anonymous private investors who are excited about sharing the excitement of salsa in the south bay are covering the cost of the free lessons.
Q: What is the age group that attends the class?
A: Age range appears to be anywhere from 21 - 50 years of age.
