The first step in learning how to dance salsa is to lose your fear.

“Yes, it’s a little intimidating at first to see other people dancing like professionals,” says Enrique Arias, who a few days ago was taking a salsa class for beginners at the Tango del Rey nightclub. “I still don’t feel totally comfortable, but I’m starting to get better.”

NEW to J Smooth Salsa are Casino de Rueda dance classes! Every 2nd Tuesday of the month, special guest instructor (for a limited time) Parrish Danforth will be at the Miraido Dance Studio to teach Casino de Rueda.

Sidewalks were still icy and another snow storm was brewing, but that didn’t stop about 150 salseros from coming out Monday to Brasil’s Nightclub in support of a fund-raiser for Haiti earthquake victims. The “Hope for Haiti” event raised more than $5,300, more than 130 pairs of shoes and more than 100 pairs of  lightly-worn jeans were donated.
