Shines

Note: With the exception of the first basic step, the shines have the dancer's body facing left from the beginning basic that is, the beginning basic has the dancer facing in any forward direction.

1: Left foot, forward step basic.
2: Right foot, weighted step basic.
3: Left foot, Open step. While turning body to face left, left foot steps shoulder length.

5: Left cross step.
(Right leg is crossed behind left leg by stepping behind the left leg.)
6: Right cross step.
(At this point, left leg is in front of the right leg. Left leg steps behind right leg in cross step.)
7: Right foot, Open step. While body remains facing left, right foot steps shoulder length in open step.

1: Left foot, Forward basic step.
(Dancer turns body right to face forward again in basic.)

Grape-Vine Series

1: Left foot, right cross-step, front.
(Steps accross and in front of the right leg.)
2: Right foot, right side step.
(Right foot steps to right side in open stance.)
3: Left foot, right cross-step, behind.
(Similar to 1, except step behind the right leg.)

&: Right leg, mid-air pass.
(The count connects the 3rd and 5th count with a mid-air leg fan.)

5: Right foot, left cross-step, behind.
(Similar to above, the right foot steps behind the left leg in cross step.)
6: Left foot, left side step.
(Left foot steps to left in open stance.)
7: Right foot, left cross-step, front.

1: Left foot, left side step.
2: Left travelling turn.
(Travel in a left turn by staying in the line of dance and step with the right foot after turn.)
3: Left travelling turn.
(Continue to travel in a turn by turning left and stepping down with the left foot within the line of dance.)

(The left foot steps far left.)

Hops and Flutter Steps

Box & Hops

123: Basic.

567: Left-side box.
(5: Right foot, back step.)
(6: Left foot, left-forward-diagonal step.)
(7: Right foot, right-forward-diagonal step.)


123: Right side-steps to hop.
(1: Left foot, front cross step.)
(2: Right foot, right side step, prep for hop.)
(3: Air hop with legs-reversed landing. Pushing off from the right foot, hop straight up and land with the right leg in front of the left leg in a cross step, with weight on the right foot.)


567: Left cross-hop to Left foot, flutter steps.
(5: Right foot, push-off for hop. Hop towards the left and land with the left leg in front of the right in a cross step. Land with weight on the left foot.)
(6: Right foot, right side step.)
(7: Left foot, flutter step. With the left foot off the ground, flutter the foot from right to left quickly before stepping forward for the basic.)

Cross Step & Sweep

123: Basic.

5: Right foot, rear cross step. (The right leg goes behind the left leg, with the right toe stepping to the left of the left heel.)
6: Left foot, rear cross step. (The left leg goes behind the right leg, with the left toe stepping to the right of the right heel.)
7: Right leg, right sweep. (With the weight on the left leg, sweep the right leg out to the right. The right leg is straight during the sweep.)

&: Right toe, left sweep. (With the weight still on the left leg, sweep the left foot directly left so that the foot is in front of you now. Transfer the weight to the right foot.)

1: Left foot, forward basic step.

Start - Open hold.

123 - Crossbody lead prep.
567 - Crossbody lead to single-armed turn-out position.
End with only the leader's left hand holding the follower's right hand.
123 - Open break to half inside turn, with check.
Leader turns follower with the left, so that the follower ends to their right, and stops the follower by having the right hand on the follower's left shoulder blade.
567 - Half walk-around to shadow position.
Leader does a hug-n-pull on the follower so that they move into a 3-count crossbody lead. Leader ends with their back to the follower, still connected with their left hand.
123 - Basic step with hand drop.
Leader steps forward while follower steps back, a true basic step. As leader steps forward, leader releases follower's right hand and drops it into their right hand. Leader finishes by stepping back so they are to the side of the follower, the follower's right behind them.
567 - Travelling left/inside turn.
Leader pulls and turns follower's left hand into a travelling left turn into the slot.
123 - Basic.

Lead Shadow Wrap To Left Turn Head Loop Exit
Start - Open hold.

123 - Open break to Left Half turn to shadow wrap.
(After count 2, the lead turns left in the open hold by bringing the right hand hold up and stepping into the hold. Bring the holds to waist level by 3.)
567 - Arm loops to hand plant.
(Right hand hold, the lead brings it up and over to the right shoulder and releases by 5. The follower drops that arm to the side. By 7, the lead brings the left hand hold to the left shoulder, and drops the follower's hand on that shoulder. The follower keeps the hand on the lead until the pattern is done.)
123 - Flare to left turn for head loop.
(The lead steps forward with the left foot and flares with the left arm forward. On 2 & 3, the lead steps and turns left under the follower's left hand. The lead pops their head back up.)
567 - Back basic.

Pulled Walk-Around with Flare
Start - Reverse cross hold. (left hand on top)

123 - Open break with hand release on both holds. Lead ends on right side of follower after break, turned right to face follower's back.
(After pull back from the open break, the lead releases the follower's hands up high so that they are out of the way. When the lead is facing the follower's back, the lead will be pulling the follower back. The follower, during the break, remains facing forward.)
567 - Follower does basic steps while stepping backwards. Lead pulls follower back and to their right.
(Leader pulls follower back by having hands on follower's hips.)
123 - Basic flare.
(The lead twists the follower's hip clockwise so that their hips face 90 degrees right of the slot. The follower also has their right foot back for the basic step. Lead also has their right foot back. Right legs are bent at the knees while the left legs are straight. This is on the 1 count. By count 3, the lead moves the left arm so that it holds the follower's left arm while the right hand moves to the follower's back right shoulder. This preps the follower for a travelling inside turn.)
567 - Travelling inside turn.
(The lead pushes the follower into a travelling left turn, end by facing the lead.)
123 - Basic step.
